*TIFF:Tagged Image File Format is a file format for storing images, including photographs and line art. TIFF is a flexible, adaptable file format for handling images and data within a single file, by including the TOPPANEL tags (size, definition, image-data arrangement, applied image compression) defining the image's geometry. For example, a TIFF file can be a container holding compressed JPEG and RLE (run-length encoding) images. A TIFF file also can include a vector-based Clipping path (outlines, croppings, image frames). The ability to store image data in a lossless format makes a TIFF file a useful image archive, because, unlike standard JPEG files, a TIFF file using lossless compression (or none) may be edited and re-saved without losing image quality. Of course this is not the case when using the TIFF as a container holding compressed JPEG. Other TIFF options are layers and pages.

*CCITT FAX 3 and CCITT FAX 4 (CCITT GROUP 3 and CCITT GROUP 4):The CCITT encoding standard is defined by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), formerly known as the Comite Consultatif International Telephonique et Telegraphique (International Coordinating Committee for Telephony and Telegraphy). Group 3 (4) compression is a method for compressing monochrome bitmaps that is used by fax machines, and is also available as on of the compression options in TIFF file format.

*LZW:is a universal lossless data compression algorithm created by Abraham Lempel, Jacob Ziv, and Terry Welch. It was published by Welch in 1984 as an improved implementation of the LZ78 algorithm published by Lempel and Ziv in 1978. The algorithm is designed to be fast to implement but is not usually optimal because it performs only limited analysis of the data.

* JPEG:JPEG is a commonly used method of compression for photographic images. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

*DPI:Dots per inch (DPI) is a measure of spatial printing or video dot density, in particular the number of individual dots that can be placed within the span of one linear inch (2.54 cm.) The DPI value tends to correlate with image resolution, but is related only indirectly.

*Single-strip:Many fax applications require the RowsPerStrip equal ImageLength (each page as a single strip).

PDF:Portable Document Format.
